For more than four decades, Bill Mick contributed to high school athletics as a coach, administrator and then mentor to those who followed him in those roles. For those and many more contributions, he is the 2012 recipient of the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Charles E. Forsythe Award.

The winter tournament season enters its busiest month this weekend with two sets of live-streamed championships – Individual Wrestling Finals from The Palace of Auburn Hills and Competitive Cheer Finals from the Grand Rapids Delta Plex. The Frankenmuth High School student cheering section has been selected as this year’s Michigan High School Athletic Association “Battle of the Fans” winner as the top student cheering section among member schools. This was the first year for the contest, which was organized by MHSAA staff and its 16-member Student Advisory Council.

A fixture in Comstock Park athletics for 40 years, Janet Gillette previously has been recognized on local, regional and statewide levels for her contributions mostly as the high school’s athletic director. On Sunday (Feb. 5), she’ll also be named the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s 25^th Women In Sports Leadership Award recipient.
