There is a small body of research that is unique to the MHSAA . . . Our uniqueness is in two areas.
Because we care about the health and welfare of students . . . we operate our programs in ways that make promoters, marketers and business entrepreneurs laugh, cry or cringe.
Although middle school and even elementary school tournaments exist in many states, only a very small number of our constituents in Michigan promote the idea of statewide tournaments for junior high/middle school students.
It is appropriate to take the longest day of the year to address one of the long tails of the longest lawsuit in MHSAA history.
This might cause us to consider more deeply what a high school sport should look like, or at least what an MHSAA tournament sport should stand for.
The MHSAA will have its “40th Anniversaries” for seven of its girls sports tournaments during the next three school years . . .
It remains our belief that the passion and performance of the competition on the court must be the primary focus of these tournaments, but we do want to increase the interest and enhance the enjoyment of spectators.
