When properly focused, competitive interscholastic athletics trades in difficult fun, devoted friendships and dedication to fitness throughout life.
The lure of participation for adolescents is that competitive school sports is difficult fun.
“We need to move our focus from MHSAA tournaments to the regular season, to the 9- or 18-game regular season, and to the 100 to 200 practices that occur over three or four months of each season.”
And that is one very important of very many reasons why play of a competitive nature . . . matters, just as much today as 28 centuries ago.
Every student we can keep engaged in school sports is a future advocate for school sports, as are these student-athletes’ parents.
