EAST LANSING, Mich. – Sept. 29 – East Lansing’s 21-6 football victory over defending Division 3 champion River Rouge is the lead story on the MHSAA Network weekly radio show, This Week In High School Sports, which airs on over 100 radio stations and audio webcast outlets across the state as part of their weekly prep coverage.
The five-minute program leads off each week with feature stories from around the state from the MHSAA’s Second Half, or from network affiliated stories and interviews. This Week Game Balls are then presented for team or individual achievements in the past week. Be The Referee, a 60-second look at the fine art of officiating, comes in the middle of the show; and is followed by a closing feature or commentary.
In addition to a report on the East Lansing-River Rouge game, This Week hands out game Balls to Riverview soccer forward Salvadore De La Torre and Charlevoix volleyball setter Zoe Brodin; discusses a soccer rules change in Be The Referee, and closes with a tribute to long time Port Huron Tribune sports editor and registered MHSAA official Jim Whymer, who passed away last week at the age of 64.
Carried on 107 outlets as of Sept. 29, This Week In High School Sports was honored back in March by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters as the best network radio show of 2019.
This Week In High School Sports is posted to the home page of the MHSAA Website by Noon on Tuesday each week; and is also available on the MHSAA Network Website. You can listen to this week’s show by Clicking Here.
