EAST LANSING, Mich.  – Dec. 11 –  The last hurrah for fall sports takes place during December on the MHSAA Network, as highlights shows for selected Michigan High School Athletic Association Finals tournaments will make their debut on the MHSAA.TV Website and Comcast Channel 900, along with full coverage of the Lower Peninsula Girls Swimming & Diving Finals.

Highlights programs for the Upper Peninsula Girls Tennis Finals, Lower Peninsula Boys Tennis Finals, Lower Peninsula Girls Golf Finals, and Cross Country Finals in both peninsulas, will have their first airing on Comcast Channel 900 on Wednesday (Dec. 16) in two 90-minute blocks.  The girls golf leads off the first block at 7 p.m., followed by girls tennis at 7:30, and boys tennis at 8.  The cross country block begins with the Lower Peninsula girls highlights at 9:30, the Lower Peninsula boys highlights at 10 p.m.; and the Upper Peninsula show at 10:30 p.m.  The tennis-golf block will have reairings on Thursday (Dec. 17), Friday (Dec. 18) and Monday (Dec. 21) at 8:30 a.m.; and Sunday (Dec. 20) at 6:30 p.m.  The cross country block will show again on Thursday and Monday at 11 a.m., Sunday at 9 p.m.; and Dec. 27 at 10 a.m/.

All of the highlights shows are now available for on-demand viewing on the MHSAA.tv Website.

The Lower Peninsula Girls Swimming and Diving Finals will give viewers an early Christmas present, with the Division 1 and 2 Finals making their debut the evening of Dec. 23; and the Division 3 Finals on Dec. 26.  The Division 1 Finals will be shown on Dec. 23 at 7 p.m., with reairings on Dec. 24 at 8:30 a.m., Dec. 26 at 9:30 p.m., and Dec. 27 at 12:30 p.m.  The Division 2 Finals will air on Dec. 23 at 9:30 p.m., with reairings on Dec. 24 at 11 a.m., Dec. 26 at 7:30 p.m.;  Dec. 27 at 6:30 p.m.; and Dec. 28 at 8:30 a.m.  The Division 3 Finals will be shown on Dec. 26 at 12:30 p.m., with reairings on Dec. 27 at 9 p.m.; Dec. 28 at 11 a.m.; Dec. 30 at 7 p.m.; and Dec. 31 at 8:30 a.m. 

Girls volleyball will also get plenty of airtime on Comcast Channel 900 in December, with the Final matches from the MHSAA Tournament at Battle Creek again being shown on December 19 with the Class D match between Battle Creek St. Philip and Pellston at 10 a.m.; followed by the Bronson-Ravenna Class C finale at 12:30 p.m.; the Bloomfield Hills Marian vs. Portage Central championship in Class A at 7 p.m.; and North Branch facing Delton Kellogg for the Class B crown at 9:30 p.m.   Visit the MHSAA.tv Website for a complete schedule.

A new feature of the MHSAA.tv Website started recently, with selected MHSAA member schools participating in a video streaming pilot launching portal pages to content specific to their school.

Since the beginning of the school year, students from 17 schools from the Capital Area Activities Conference in mid-Michigan, plus Carsonville-Port Sanilac and Hartland High Schools, have combined to cover over 200 events in basketball, cross country, football, ice hockey, soccer, swimming, volleyball, and wrestling to place on the MHSAA.tv Website.  The schools participating in the pilot are being provided at no cost the equipment necessary to create video and stream it to the Internet by When We Were Young Productions, which powers the MHSAA Network; and its technical partner, PlayOn! Sports.

Schools participating in the pilot are being be paid for their participation, and are allowed to use the equipment and the streaming solution to distribute their regular-season events in any sport they choose, at any level they wish.  Their only participation requirement is to stream those MHSAA tournament games they host. 

The CAAC schools which contributed content to the MHSAA.tv Website during the fall are:  East Lansing, Eaton Rapids, Fowlerville, Haslett, Ionia, Jackson, Jackson Lumen Christi, Jackson Northwest, Lansing Catholic, Lansing Sexton, Lansing Waverly, Mason, Okemos, Owosso, St. Johns, and Williamston. 

Once a school has posted a designated number of events to MHSAA.tv, it is given a unique web address, a portal it can direct its fans to for school-specific content.  As of December 1, the following schools had been given portal page addresses:

The MHSAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary membership by over 1,600 public and private senior high schools and junior high/middle schools which exists to develop common rules for athletic eligibility and competition.  No government funds or tax dollars support the MHSAA, which was the first such association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament entry fees from schools.  Member schools which enforce these rules are permitted to participate in MHSAA tournaments, which attract approximately 1.6 million spectators each year.
