EAST LANSING, Mich. – Jan. 15 – A battle of two of the top-ranked girls basketball teams in in the state and rivalry games to the South and North on the hardwood head this week’s MHSAA.tv schedule, again offering over 250 events produced by School Broadcast Program participants.
The top-ranked team in Division 2 and two-time defending Class C champion Detroit Edison (9-1), will be at the second-ranked team in Division 3, Pewamo-Westphalia (6-0), on Monday (Jan. 21) at 6 p.m. The two teams faced each other in the 2017 Class C Final, with Edison registering a 46-44 victory; and they met in the Semifinals in 2018, with Edison again prevailing, 50-39.
It’s the first of two big non-conference home games in two weeks for Pewamo-Westphalia, which will host defending Class B champion Detroit Country Day on Feb. 1.
A Detroit Catholic League Central Division showdown of once-beaten Farmington Hills Mercy (6-1) and unbeaten Bloomfield Hills Marian (7-0) takes place Friday (Jan. 18) at 7 p.m. at Marian. Both teams are 2-0 in league play, and Marian is ranked in the top ten in this week’s media polls in Girls Division 1.
About 260 miles to the North, Pellston (9-1) will host Gaylord St. Mary (5-2) for the top spot Wednesday (Jan. 16) at 7 p.m. for the lead spot in the Ski Valley Conference, where both teams are currently 5-1. Pellston is ranked in the top ten in Boys Division 4.
In its tenth year, the School Broadcast Program gives members an opportunity to showcase excellence in their schools by creating video programming of athletic and non-athletic events; with students gaining skills in announcing, camera operation, directing/producing and graphics. Pixellot – The NFHS Network’s automated streaming solution - is used by schools wishing to live stream games, but lack the ability to staff the events. The program also gives schools the opportunity to raise money through advertising and viewing subscriptions.

All content becomes available for free, on-demand viewing 72 hours after being shown live. School Broadcast Program participants will also be selling Season and Annual Passes at a discounted rate. A portion of every subscription sold by a school goes to benefit its program.
The MHSAA Network’s flagship program, This Week In High School Sports, is carried on 108 over-the-air radio stations and internet audio websites as part of their weekly high school sports programming.
The five-minute program, powered by Michigan Student Aid, is in its fourth season. The show leads off each week with feature stories from around the state from the MHSAA’s Second Half, or from network affiliated stories and interviews. This Week Game Balls are then presented for team or individual achievements in the past week. Be The Referee, a 60-second look at the fine art of officiating, comes in the middle of the show; and is followed by a closing MHSAA Perspective.
This week’s show features Niles Brandywine wrestler Searra Inman; covers tripping in ice hockey in the Be The Referee segment; and finishes with a National Federation commentary directed at parent’s behavior towards game officials.
