EAST LANSING, Mich. – Oct. 8 –  As the prep football season begins its final stretch, league titles go on the line, several of which will be featured on MHSAA Football Friday Overtime on FOX Sports Detroit this Friday (Oct. 11) at Midnight.

Mickey York and Rob Rubick will host this week’s 30-minute highlights show.  The program reairs on Saturday (Oct. 12) at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday (Oct. 13) at 9 a.m.

Two games being covered by School Broadcast Program members will provide highlights of showdowns to the North and West.  Pickford is at St. Ignace, where the home team can clinch at least a tie for the Ski Valley Conference North title, but a Pickford win could put the Panthers into a possible three-way deadlock for the crown with one week to play if Indian River Inland Lakes defeats Pellston.  In fact, the Bulldogs would clinch a piece of a title with its league schedule completed.  The East Division of the Wolverine Conference has undefeated Paw Paw and Plainwell meeting at Plainwell, with the winner securing at least a tie of the division title with a week to go.

In addition, five other contests with league leads on the line are among those scheduled to be highlighted this week on Football Friday Overtime:

  • South Lyon at South Lyon East – South Lyon looking to stay in the KLAA Central race
  • Northville at Novi – Battle for the Baseline Jug & a Northville win give it the KLAA Central outright
  • Livonia Churchill at Livonia Franklin – A crosstown rivalry
  • Canton at Plymouth – Canton can win the KLAA South outright with a victory
  • Detroit Denby at Detroit King – King can win the PSL East Division outright with a victory
  • Grosse Pointe North at Grosse Point South – Both teams in a three-way tie for first in the MAC Blue

Each week, packages of highlights produced by schools in the  School Broadcast Program are featured on the MHSAA.tv website and the MHSAA YouTube Channel, and selected schools provide footage for the MHSAA’s Football Friday Overtime show on FOX Sports Detroit.

This week’s package of School Broadcast Program Highlights from the week of Sept. 30 includes the following events:

Here’s the schedule of School Broadcast Program members planning to cover Week Seven football games, some of which will be available at MHSAA.tv shortly after each game’s conclusion (all games Friday):

In the coming days, these events will be covered in other sports:

The School Broadcast Program, powered by PlayOn! Sports, is a platform which schools can utilize to reach members of their community about activities taking place in their buildings, providing recognition for students while at the same time giving them hands-on opportunities to gain broadcasting experience and providing schools an opportunity to realize additional revenues for their programs.

Schools interested in becoming a part of the School Broadcast Program should contact John Johnson at the MHSAA Office.

The network for the weekly radio commentary MHSAA Perspective – presented by the Michigan Army National Guard – has now grown to a total of 81 radio stations (76)  and audio webcast sites (5) across the state, generally during the local broadcasts of high school games.  The program runs for 30 weeks through the end of the winter sports season.  MHSAA Perspective can also be accessed from the home page of the MHSAA Website.  Visit the MHSAA Perspective page of the MHSAA Website for a complete list of network affiliates.

This week’s MHSAA Perspective is titled:  Big Picture.  In this week's edition of Perspective, John Johnson talks about the actions of the Concord High School volleyball teams to help a player on the Union City High School volleyball team whose family had lost their home in a fire.
