EAST LANSING, Mich. – Oct. 1 –  What has become a fall tradition – the Selection Sunday Show, announcing the qualifiers and first round pairings for the MHSAA Football Playoffs – has been scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 27 on FOX Sports Detroit.

The hour long show has been a staple for over 15 years, where football teams gather to celebrate the just completed regular season and watch to see their name called on the air.  The Selection Sunday Show kicks off FOX’s post-season coverage, which includes four live PrepZone games on FOXSports Detroit.com each week of the playoffs and coverage of the MHSAA Football Finals in November.

It’s also Week Six for MHSAA Football Friday Overtime on FOX Sports Detroit.  Mickey York and Rob Rubick will host this week’s 30-minute highlights show.  The program reairs on Saturday (Oct. 5) at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday (Oct. 6) at 9 a.m.

Each week, packages of highlights produced by schools in the  School Broadcast Program are featured on the MHSAA.tv website and the MHSAA YouTube Channel, and selected schools provide footage for the MHSAA’s Football Friday Overtime show on FOX Sports Detroit.

The MHSAA’s School Broadcast Program continues to gain momentum as the first month of the new school year finishes, with participating schools producing 142 athletic events and 117 non-athletic events since the beginning of the school year.  Those numbers are a slight increase overall and in athletic events over a year ago, when 120 athletic events and 123 non-athletic events were produced in the same time frame.

The school Broadcast Program, powered by PlayOn! Sports, is a platform which schools can utilize to reach members of their community about activities taking place in their buildings, providing recognition for students while at the same time giving them hands-on opportunities to gain broadcasting experience and providing schools an opportunity to realize additional revenues for their programs.

Schools interested in becoming a part of the School Broadcast Program should contact John Johnson at the MHSAA Office.

The network for the weekly radio commentary MHSAA Perspective – presented by the Michigan Army National Guard – has now grown to a total of 81 radio stations (76)  and audio webcast sites (5) across the state, generally during the local broadcasts of high school games.  The program runs for 30 weeks through the end of the winter sports season.  MHSAA Perspective can also be accessed from the home page of the MHSAA Website.  Visit the MHSAA Perspective page of the MHSAA Website for a complete list of network affiliates.

This week’s MHSAA Perspective is titled Trophy Games.   In this week's edition of Perspective, John Johnson talks about some of the more unique and long-standing trophy games that schools play each season, and how they capture the local essence of high school sports.
