EAST LANSING, Mich. – Jan. 3 –  The winter sports season on the MHSAA Network is already underway with school-created content on MHSAA.tv, and this week marks the beginning of coverage on Xfinity with an Ice Hockey game between Gibraltar Carlson and perennial powerhouse Trenton on Friday (Jan. 4).

Approximately 60 schools are involved in the School Broadcast Program, which is in its fourth year.  Since the beginning of the school year, Michigan schools have produced 1,094 events, second only to Georgia’s 1,419 among the 21 states on the PlayOn! Sports platform (playonsports.com).  In 2011-12, student-produced events totaled 2,474 over the entire school year.

Here’s the schedule of schools planning to cover games this weekend, which will be available at MHSAA.tv shortly after each game’s conclusion:

On Friday, PlayOn! Sports, an MHSAA Network television partner, will be at the Kennedy Arena in Trenton the Gibraltar Carlson-Trenton ice hockey game.  It’s the first of 17 winter events that will be featured weekly by Xfinity on various platforms.  The Carlson-Trenton game will air on Tuesday (Jan. 8 at 7 and 9:30 p.m.; on Wednesday (Jan. 9) at 8 and 10:30 a.m.; on Jan. 12 at 8 a.m.; and Jan. 13 at Noon.

Each week’s games, featuring schools from Wayne County and the O-K Conference in West Michigan, will generally be presented by Xfinity to viewers on Comcast Channel 900 on the following Tuesday at 7 and 9:30 p.m., with additional replays throughout the week.  The games will be online for Xfinity subscribers at Xfinity.com/HighSchoolSports, and highlights will also be available on the Xfinity on Demand service.  Here’s the complete winter schedule:

In its eighth season this week is the radio commentary MHSAA Perspective, which airs on over 60 radio stations across the state, generally during the local broadcasts of high school games.  The program runs for 30 weeks through the end of the winter sports season.  MHSAA Perspective can also be accessed from the home page of the MHSAA Website.  Stations carrying MHSAA Perspective are:
