Building a successful and reputable school sports program within the framework of rules and regulations is a high goal for administrators and coaches alike in our line of work.  It’s something all strive for.  However, given tightened budgets, expanded outside opportunities for our kids and a myriad of other potential roadblocks, it is not an easy task.  It’s a full-time job, and one which takes hard work and cooperation from all parties.

To that end, it’s important to recognize and emulate schools that do it right.

The MHSAA collaborates with the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA) to administer the Exemplary Athletic Program Award.  Last school year, only Fruitport High School completed the grueling process.  Congratulations to Athletic Director Ken Erny and all associated with Fruitport High School athletics!

The Fruitport community will celebrate this feat at its home football game this Friday, Oct. 2.

Over the past nine years, 18 schools have made the effort and earned the honor as Exemplary Athletic Programs.  Information about the process can be found at MIAAA.com.
