My counterparts in other states have been surprised to learn that I maintain a blog on the MHSAA website, with fresh entries twice each week, which I actually write myself.  And that we also post readers’ comments.  There isn’t one other state high school association doing this.

Why would we obligate ourselves to the effort, and why would we post responses that are sometimes critical and occasionally based on incomplete or even erroneous information?

We have multiple motives, but overriding is our desire to make MHSAA.com almost everything that fans of interscholastic athletics want and our athletic administrators and officials need, as well as our awareness that transparency of organizations and interaction with constituents are keys to our ability to serve the expanding needs of educational athletics.

It is doubtful society will ever be less interested in information and interacting with it than it is today.  The MHSAA will be providing more and more of both.

I have to applaud the MHSAA's attitude on this front. I know there are complaints about the site redesign and I'm sure you'll take feedback and tinker with the design, but the attitude you've articulated here is commendable. I think there's a degree of bitterness out there about your organization's operations in corners of the public; the old-fashioned public/private disputes, complaints that teams get favorable tournament assignments, etc. I think the more open you are about this process and how it works, the better for everybody.
