Tomorrow, for the 25th consecutive year, the MHSAA is inviting the leadership of high school leagues and conferences across Michigan to gather.  Since the first meeting, occurring in my first year as executive director, we’ve used this meeting to help communicate the proposals for change that are enroute to the MHSAA Representative Council’s May meeting.

Most of the proposals are in the form of recommendations to the Council from MHSAA standing committees; and most of those proposals originate with the high school coaches associations for the various sports.

This information is provided to league leaders who are asked to provide it to and discuss it with their league members.  The leagues are urged to provide responses to the MHSAA regarding proposals with which they are in great agreement or disagreement.

This input is combined with study and survey results to assist the Council in making the best decisions it can for a membership that is diverse in its makeup and opinions.

This year’s meeting will include special discussions of electronic media, the start of spring sports, football scheduling, and the changes occurring as a result of economic conditions and collapsing school budgets.
