In pursuit of this dream, they push their children harder, drive them further and pay increasing amounts to get them on the most elite teams.
While the number of sports and levels of teams have greatly expanded these past five or six decades, the coaching pool within the faculty of a school district has not.
One might pick a school year in the mid 1950s as the peak of prominence for school sports in America.
During the past quarter century, the clientele of high school athletics has become five times more mobile. It’s one of school sports’ greatest challenges.
Just because schools change, it is not necessary that rules of school sports change as well. Sometimes, perhaps. But not always or even often.
