Except for some new socks, there’s nothing I need as a gift this holiday season; and what I want I’ve already obtained myself. Books! What I really need – like a lot of you – is the gift of time to actually read them.
In anticipation of visiting our son and his wife who both teach in China, my wife and I have been “studying” the country.

School sports is a team sport. It’s not just something that coaches and athletes do; but something, even in so-called individual sports, that a team must do together to do well.
A minor repair to a vocal cord forced me into 48 hours of silence recently. I rather enjoyed it and, frankly, was a little sorry to see it end.
We appreciate that the soul of high school sports is in local communities and their cross-town or cross-county rivalries.
Thinking on this event reminds me of what so often happens in so many places in this wonderful world of school sports.
