In the 2009-10 school year, the MHSAA will once again be awarding sportsmanship mini-grants. Thanks to the generosity of MHSAA corporate sponsor, MEEMIC Insurance Company, the pool of grant dollars available to Michigan schools has been raised to $15,000.

This is a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of MEEMIC’s commitment to sportsmanship in educational athletics, and we encourage you to consider the following types of efforts in building grant-worthy programs:

  1. Programs and materials for junior high/middle school students and faculty.
  2. Programs and materials for high school team captains.
  3. Programs and materials for high school student cheering sections.
  4. Programs and materials for spectators.
  5. Programs for leagues & conferences.

MEEMIC and the MHSAA believe that the most effective sportsmanship efforts are the most local. Please think about what you can do that is new and better in 2009-10, and let us help you fund your local program.

Applications are available NOW (Word | PDF) on the sportsmanship page of MHSAA.com. Mini-grants ranging from $50 to $750 will be distributed throughout the year, but they can be approved immediately. There is no deadline for receiving applications. Applications are generally approved, and mini-grant funds distributed, within 45 days.

If selected as a recipient, a representative from your local MEEMIC agency will deliver the mini-grant check to your school.
